Oral Hygiene Education

Oral hygiene education is useful and instructive material designed to teach and guide our patients in the prevention of cavities and the maintenance of healthy teeth and gums. Our dentist will guide you on proper brushing and flossing techniques during your initial oral hygiene appointment at Bell Dental Care. Follow-up visits will be scheduled to monitor your progress in maintaining good dental health and to discuss and reinforce home cleaning procedures.

What Is Oral Hygiene?

The process of keeping one's mouth clean is known as oral hygiene. Brushing and flossing are examples of basic therapies. Comprehensive oral hygiene encompasses a broader variety of approaches, such as dental prophylaxis, frequent exams, and timely treatment of disorders affecting the teeth and gums.

What Effect Does Oral Health Have on Your Body?

Ongoing dental issues can have a substantial influence on your quality of life. Dental issues can affect how you speak, eat, and drink. Furthermore, cavities and other problems can be excruciatingly painful. Even seemingly insignificant flaws, such as yellow teeth, can harm your self-esteem.

Unfortunately, some dental issues can have serious consequences. Bacteria in your mouth have the ability to enter your bloodstream. This bacteria may play a role in heart disease, clogged arteries, and other cardiovascular issues.

Tips for Good Oral Hygiene

  • Maintain proper dental hygiene. Brush your teeth thoroughly twice a day to remove dental plaque.
  • Every day, floss, interdental brushes, floss picks, or water flossers should be used to clean between your teeth. Make certain that no teeth are skipped.
  • Use fluoride-containing toothpaste or mouthwash.
  • Even if you wear dentures or don't have any natural teeth, you should see your dentist at least once a year.
  • Do not use any tobacco products. If you smoke, you should stop.
  • Limit your intake of alcoholic beverages.
  • If you have diabetes, attempt to keep it under control. As a result, other problems, such as gum disease, will be minimized.
  • If your prescription causes dry mouth, consult your doctor about a different medicine that may not produce this side effect. If dry mouth is unavoidable, drink plenty of water, chew sugarless gum, and avoid smoke and alcohol.
  • If you notice sudden changes in taste or smell, consult your doctor or a dentist.
